Charity Appeal
Okay, so my book is now 65,000 words, and it is polished and nearly good, and just needs a final scene and a final final draft... BUT I can't find a title. Without the title I can't finish it, as the title ties everything up, doesn't it?
If anyone can come up with one for me that I like and use, I will, um, buy them a drink and put them in the acknowledgements should it ever get published.
It is about high fashion, and the seaside, and jealousy and, um fake pasts, and secrets. And a cape made of dog fur...
Thank you.
"coats"
as in dogs' fur and fashion and layers (of your past) and to be coated 'in' envy/jealousy... and it's an anagram of coast.
.... next!
Oooh! Coats!...
Coats...
It works on so many levels....
Le Freak, Sea Chic is actually a great title for a fashion show, and I may pinch it for the designer in my book's summer collection.
Next!
'Coats' is brill. Well done, e_w!
Seriously Ely, I love you right now. You may have been joking, but it is so the right title.
I LOVE YOU.
no joke Ferg. I'm glad you like it, love you too babe!
Awwww. Happy loving people...
I just have to say thanks once more. Not to over-egg this particular poem, but I've been going through certain parts of the novel - and it's so easy to tidy it up and make it cohesive now it is called Coats.
And it looks nice in the footer next to my name.
So... THANKS.
(I have trying to think of a title for this book since I started it exactly a year ago, to no avail. The original title was Ruskin's Coat, but I didn't like it, then I forgot about coats altogether.)
Right - I will stop thanking the wondrous Ely as of now. But I am very thankful.
think nothing of it Ferg, what's a writers website for if you can't have the occasional idea for someone else eh?
I've always preferred short titles, although recent bestsellers etc seem to have longer ones at the mo, maybe yours will stand out. Glad to be of service again and good luck with it.
Taking the 'Coats' theme if you want to elongate it a bit...and you probably don't now - how about:
Raleigh's Cloak
if my memory serves me right - and it is notoriously bad these days - it was lined with dog fur.
but Raleigh went to sea, was a dandy of high fashion in the court of QE, was thought to have had an affair with the Queen, held back secrets about the 'New World' etc.
but it's quite possible that the allegory doesn't work in the overall book.
look 'cookie boy' she's picked mine now alright so back off!
You DID promise 50% royalties, right Ferg?
Um... I think it was a drink and an acknowledgement....
*backpedals swiftly, knowing that Ely would find 50% of the inevitable £4.50 revenue something of an insult*
