Knitting booties? I think you may be mistaking yourself for a "grandma" there, TC... ;-)
Anyway, congrats!

Congrats Gramps. Now let me see, what do I remember about my dear, late Grandad. Every sunday he would threaten me with "a bunch 'o' fives." He always had his pockets full of mints and spare change. He used to bury marbles in the back yard so that my sister and I could dig them up. There was nothing better for security and comfort than climbing onto his hard, pot belly on a saturday afternoon while he sat doing his pools next to the fire. Oh! And he always smelled of Old Spice. All Grandads are great men ;)

May 17th is the predicted time of arrival - but I get on far too many trains to believe a word of it.
It's not only women who knit (although I do admit to never having mastered the art). The Right Reverend Richard Rutt, one time Bishop of Leicester, was a phenomenal knitter - he even produced a number of books on the subject.
Thankyou for your kind words. I'm just a bit flabbergasted.
Tony will make an excellent grandad I think.
I am going to be an uncle soon, and a -sort of an uncle like person although not actually related- sometime next week. There's a lot of it going about.

I think "Well done" is going a bit far - you can't take THAT much credit, surely?
But all the best and enjoy it, Tony. Are you going to buy a pipe? All the best grandads smoke one.
Ah, pipes! I am of an age where it was 'cool' to smoke a pipe as a youngster. Used to fill it with that vile 'clan' tobacco - sweet smelling and pungent. It went out all the time, the strem got full of flem and muck and it was generally so revolting that it's put me off pipes for life.
But hiding marbles in the garden - there's a fine notion.
Being a grand dad is brilliant. I have two grandkids and I love 'em to bits. It's also great seeing how my son has to suffer all the crap that he made me endure 30years ago. I see the kids 2 or 3 times a week and when they act up I just send them home, it's real stress-free 'parenting'.
In fact, I think being a grand dad is better than being a dad. No stress, no financial responsibilities, no going to meet teachers who invariably talk to the parents like kids. It does however cost me a fortune in peppermints.
Surely, Werther's Originals. Unfortunately my grandchild will be living in Exeter and we are still in brighton so I won't get to see him/her two or three times a week - until we move back to Devon that is!
