We are grandparents!

At 5.15 this morning little Alfred Ivor Frazer Richardson was born at home to our lovely eldest daughter, Mattie, and her husband Dan.

He's 6 lbs 6 ozs. with a heap of black hair. A quick, three hour labour with no problems.

Off to devon to meet, greet, tickle the toes and wet the head.

Congratulations. Enjoy the christening-and the head-wetting etc.
Alfred is a lovely name! I really like the old English (pre Norman invasion) names. Alfred is derived from the Old English element ælf "elf" combined with ræd "counsel". I'm going to call my first son Wilfred Patrick John (John after my muse, Patrick after his father) and Wilfred means "desiring peace" from Old English wil "will, desire" and fred "peace". This Old English name was rarely used after the Norman conquest but was revived in the 19th century. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Well done Mattie.
I love it when men say 'a quick, 3 hour labour', as if it's like repairing the carburettor. Do you mean labour as in 'when the first contractions started' (which would mean a quick labour, indeed?), or do you mean the part of labour that involves lots of discomfort and pushing? *shudders at the memory* Congrats on grandadhood, though! I've heard it's a sight bit easier than parenthood!
Congratulations!
Aww - many, many congratulations, Tony. "with a heap of black hair" keep him away from trees, will you, there's a dear. ~ www.fabulousmother.com
Thankyou all. It was indeed three hours from when serious contractions started to birth - truly a quick one! Alfie is just gorgeous - of course - Mattie and he are doing fine. A touch of head wetting has been in order - it just needs Exeter to demolish Oxford in the Conference play offs tonight to make the world perfect. pip pip form a happy Grandad
Grandfathers get to recall tales and in due course pontificate.Enjoy the whole experience and of course when Alfred fusses you can look helpless and hand him back to a parent.Perfick

Tony, in your photo you look far to youthful to become a granddad. But congratulations, anyway. I made my parents first-time grandparents, and they love the whole enjoy quality time then give back thing. Congrats, it's a great time for you.
