Span's got picked!

I discovered through Twitter that our very own Span has been chosen as the first 'intro' writer for the Arts Council backed Nasty Little Press. I've sent off for my copy and I suggest that you do too. It'll be a volume to treasure.

Hurrah for Hannah!

I heartily endorse this, so I'll repeat it: Buy Hannah's booklet You won't regret it. Honest :o>

'Art is not a mirror to reflect reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.'

I just got my copy in today's mail. Hannah is a natural poet, writing lines that are graceful, and yet muscular. And her poetic sensibility is original, fresh takes and odd, sensual insights. I like every one of the five poems in the very attractive Nastylittlepress publication. Let's finish a poem entitled "Neg" with "You know,/you're no one's favorite person." and walk a poem "Very good decision" down the two pages with solid lines that reveal the poet as substantive and thoughtful, and interesting "if I was her lover she would kiss me/and it would feel like a beginning."/ and pen, in "About working in an office", these lines "and in a book shop left a kiss/in every copy of 'Self Justifications of a Prick Tease.'/ I won't continue with the closing two poems which have their own virtues, but will say of Hannah Walker that I would like to see and own a longer collection of hers. She's fertile, boys, and very smart.
I heartily recommend all Nasty Little Press books - they published my first book of poetry, What if men burst in wearing balaclavas. http://www.nastylittlepress.org/books/balaclavas/ Also if you sign up to the mailing list on the website you get a free monthly e-book, with poems by the UK's best poets.
