Beauty and the big sleep

This is my first lit. crit. since joining the site and I'm really doing it mainly to get the hang of how things work, so many apologies to the author "barb" if what I write is unhelpful.

The story worked quite well for me until the ending. It was well written in a chatty style and dealt with a period that most folk over forty five will remember quite well. I found it readable and witty and smiled several times. My only negative comment is the ending. It's not bad, but it just doesn't add anything to the narrative. This left me feeling that the whole effort was insubstantial and no more than light entertainment, which was frustrating because "barb" is clearly able to write much better stuff than this.
