Reading out loud

Poetry is an oral tradition - as is story telling. The two are both closely related. Who of you think that our efforts are enhanced by 'out loud' reading?

depends what it is and who is reading it.
I think Charles Dickens died of throat cancer, apparently brought on by endless public readings of his own work. There may be a moral in that - write VERY short poems and stories if you intend to go in for public recitals. Seriously, I think a poem that seems flat on the page can come alive when read aloud, but only if the narrator has a sonorous voice and knows where to put the emphasis and inflections. I've listened to a few audio versions of well known books - some are spell binding and others make you want to throw the CD player at the wall.
I would encourage you to participate in ABCtales poetry readings or other resigns and find out. You can convey your own meaning in a different way and it is fascinating to hear how people react in person

ABCtales poetry readings! Please can you tell me more? I have done one performance piece which I enjoyed so would be interested in this.

Lavadis that is interesting. I have occasionally read comments and references to these mysterious gatherings and they do seem clandestine and intriguing. I seem to have the impression that they take place in London - though I may be completely off track.
