During the hot Balkan afternoons it’s grand to lie on the settee with jugs of glacial tea and a summer soundtrack. Joni Mitchell, Joseph Canteloube, Bob Marley and Mississippi John Hurt on scratchy vinyl all sooth as Pavlovian mosquitos snarl from their sides of insect screens.

Those afternoons will be back soon, I hope. I don't care for this having to wear socks nonsense.

It saddens me to say that

It saddens me to say that that part of Ireland is probably more grey than green but I'm pleased you recognised what I was aiming at in the poem.

Thank you Frances for taking the time to read and leave a comment, It's greatly appreciated...

We've been taking some stuff

Posted on Wed, 02 Mar 2022

We've been taking some stuff to a collection centre in a nearby town. They are sending trucks to Ukraine's borders. We've also given a few quid to a Geordie bloke who lives here and drives his truck to their border with Poland. He takes as much...

Thank you Frances for taking the time to read and your kind comment.

I can understand why you haven't been able to find the words. When I was writing my own I my mind was filled with sadness and anger. I couldn't get the words out quick...

I can't think of a worse

Posted on Fri, 11 Mar 2022

I can't think of a worse dilemma. How do they know that what they are going to is any better than what they are leaving behind?

I think of all those people from the Middle East and Africa who risk their lives and their children's lives to...

Excellent words Di. I read

Posted on Wed, 02 Mar 2022

Excellent words Di. I read your poem more than a couple of times to take it all in. I feel your frustration. It matches my own.

As innocent people and brainwashed young troops die in their thousands and the rest of us live in fear for the...

Great words to describe

Posted on Sat, 05 Feb 2022

Great words to describe nature's great explosion, which is almost upon us.

The thought of rebirth and new growth always brings a smile to my face.

Than you for this Jenny. An enjoyable read.

Great words to depict a

Great words to depict a forest scene on a cold February day.

I really liked

full of stipply falling feathered ice

which is such a good way to describe snowflakes.

Nice one Di!

I know that and you know that

I know that and you know that but far too many other people don't know that, or if they do they don't care.

I find it takes less time to

Posted on Fri, 04 Feb 2022

I find it takes less time to write a poem about putting a duvet in its case than it actually does to put the duvet in its case. There should be machines to do this for us. I'm surprised there aren't poor children in south east Asian sweatshops...

Hello Jenny.

Hello Jenny.

I love visiting other countries and meeting their people. Speaking a different language just makes the conversations more of a challenge. Trying to make myself understood always generates a bit of laughter. I can appreciate,...
