Inspiration Comes with the Dawn!
I’ve been up since four this morning
But only now is inspiration dawning
Now gone six so I give fair warning
I’ve worked so hard I can’t stop yawning.
A thought has just sprung into my head
I think I might just go back to bed
Trying to make any kind of poem rhyme
Seems to take up an awful lot of time
I’m not sure the end result is worthwhile
Probably not good enough to raise a smile
Still I’ve spent time putting all this effort in
So the least you can do is give a little grin
Yes, it’s you, the reader I’m talking too
Who else would it be if not to you
There’s only thee and me on this page
So if you stop reading I’ll fly into a rage
Well, who could blame me surely not you
Not when you’re the only person who knew
The time and great deal of effort I’ve put in
And all to elicit from you, my reader, a silly grin
So now the three of us you, me and the page
Should take a bow before leaving the stage
But then you must excuse me I’m off to my bed
So you can stop reading, try writing instead!

You raised more than a grin from me, Moya;-) More than enjoyed.
Hubby and I were up at 5.30 today, incidentally, but we did go back to bed again...or should I say he did. He's still in the land of nod as I type, as a matter of fact.
Thanks for making me smile.

Well I was up early, because I'm all excited about Cheltenham. Enjoyed this a lot, like Tina it brought a smile to my face, which is always a good start to the day.
Nice rhythm and rhyme.

Hello Tina,
Thank you for reading and commenting on, dare I say, my poem! It seems to be as near as I can get to that elusive something called a poem! Still I try...
I'm sorry you were up so early. Was it because your husband couldn't sleep? I hope he wasn't in pain!
I sometimes go to bed and then an hour later I have to get up but it doesn't bother me as long as I have something to do and as long as I can type although my nephew has bought me a voice recognition programme but I am still learning how to use it.
Glad my offering made you smile!

Hello Mate,
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate your comment about rhythm and rhyme. I think I am getting a bit better at it but whether I'll ever be good enough to write proper poetry...
Still, if my poems make people smile then perhaps my work is done!

Very funny Moya!
your early morning writing is certainly a hit,
I think you're like me, when an idea comes
into your head, you just have to write it down,
no matter what the time.
Thanks for sharing.
Jenny.

Hello Jenny,
Thanks for the read and your kind comments.
Insomniacs of the world unite!
Jenny, when an idea comes into my head it doesn't stay for too long so I have to get it down quick! I think it doesn't like to stay in an empty space it needs the company of other ideas.
Thanks once again,
Moya

Don't worry Moya, I'm exactly the same. I'll tell
you what I do, I always keep a pad and pen beside
my bed, incase an idea comes and I don't want to
get out of bed.
Jenny.
