The bottom of the sea frightens me
like the sound you make when you breathe
like the trail of blood on porcelain white
like the time we fought with no goodbye
Those flowers your mum sent from
Mozambique: bright, tumescent, with
proud stamen – only highlight the fact
we hadn't touched in weeks
but I’d rather swallow glass
than ask if you still love me.
Hiding behind a laptop screen
I write these poems so I can
be alone yet still talk to someone,
anyone who cares enough to
click and read and maybe they’ll find
a piece of me they could take home
to their parents and say this girl
is strange but it’s easy for me
to love her.
And I think about this
about a life with another
whilst you tell me about some girl
you met on the tube
which I thought was rude
because we just had sex
and I bet, she’s prettier than me
and more together
and less
afraid.

You write with fragility but honesty and humour carry form as light as a feather.
Great to see you posting.

I couldn't agree more with the above, maggy. For me, this is one of my many favourites of yours;-)

You never disappoint, Maggy. Always something wonderfully insightful going on. I always have to read more than once.

I adore the phrase "this girl is strange but it's easy for me to love her" - Blighters describes a fragility and a lightness of touch, which I totally agree with, but it has a modern heart, which for me makes it all the more relevant. Pleasure to read.

Graham Clifford I agree with all the above - and I particularly like the use of three "and"s to finish off. Well done

Hi maggy, I thought this was such an honest piece
of writing and one I myself could relate too from
the past.
You have written from the heart and it shows so
much. Very deserving of the cherries.
Jenny.

Very poignant and introspective, I love your openness here and honesty with your reader.
I feel like a fly in the corner of some thoughtful feeling the feeling of fragility the fragility of flying or not...

- such a brilliantly crafted stanza, Maggy, and I sympathise! Love the title, and love how the poem trickles away in the final stanza. Well done on the cherries!

Lovely to come across such a fluid voice, the narrative character as real as a friend you've known for years. Enjoyed reading, thanks

Stunning, so raw and innocent in the need to be loved.

Surely your arsenal of gripping and emotive imagery must be shrinking! Obviously not...
Hats off... I am honoured to read anything you place on my laptop screen.
Well done.
Nathan.
