Dear Stapedius Muscle

I have never addressed you in this way before
You have been there since I was born
The smallest muscle in my body
And yet one without which
My voice would seem so loud
And the noises around would annoy me
You protect me from those sudden loud sounds
As long as you react quickly enough
Listen,
Ha! What a word in this context!
I have not been there for you
Like you have been there for me
Granted I have eaten food which
Has nourished you
And kept myself out of harm's way
So you have survived
But I have not given you credit
The smallest muscle after all
Should get some credit, no?
Granted you are not my penis
That famed organ of pleasure
Rather more glamourous
Than is perhaps necessary
Granted you are not the pecs
That some ladies might find attractive
Granted you are not my butt
Which I sit on everyday
The biggest muscle of my body in fact
But what is size?
Can I not honour you in some way?
Do you even hear
Yes, hear my words?
Are you so part of me that I need not
Even Praise you?
Do I not even need to be thankful for your
Existence?
Do you exist even? I have only
Read about you in books
Listen
Yes listen dear stapedius
If I could hug you, I would
If I could praise you that you could hear me
I would
But I fear you are not conscious
And my words would fall
On deaf ears as it were please
Excuse the pathetic pun
Look, It may well be
That I just miss loving someone
And I have chosen you
An unfeeling thing
To vent my loneliness on
I should feel freer now
Knowing this
To feel for myself
To not use you as the scapegoat
Of my neediness
And to search for
Someone, close
A human
A female
And let her touch me
As you do, every day
