In every human being

We have a shell
Cracked and white
Chucking out our blood
From our spine
We have defenses
Silent wars being fought
For every infection
We are the Commander-In-Cheif
But the troops are unaware
Unconscious
Like we are of any god
We have eternal cells
Living on carrying on specific genes
If we mate
We are a vehicle
not the driver
Our consciousness
Sweet yet overblown
We are the fruit
Not the tree
Disposable condoms of life
But we biodegrade
And love's skeins
Last for millennia
But are eventually diluted
In successions of species
And the penultimate explosion
Of our sun
Let us hang on to the bovril
The Xbox
Eastenders
Ricky Lake
And Proust
And above all each other
As that really
Is all we have
And this is all
