Let's hear it for the neutrons

You surround me
Are in me
You have no charge
Yet you have mass
You have no mind
No brain
Yet you do things
I could not dream of doing
Am I not you?
Is not a leaf
Part of the tree?
Is not a tree
Part of a leaf?
If not then
Would we not miss
Trees without leaves?
I say that I am
Protons
Two up quarks
One down quark
I say that I am neutrons
Electrons
Cells
Chemistry
An organism
Conscious
Heart beating
Alive
Travelling around the sun
Subject to gravity
Paying my taxes
(well sort of)
Shopping at Tescos
And if I lit a match
And farted on it
Would anyone notice?
What would be at stake?
If a butterfly flaps its wings
in North Korea what could it cause?
Could I not cause more with a lit fart
No, the greater the act,
The more inconsequential
It is the smallest things we notice most
A smile
A touch
a bit of chocolate
And a neutron?
What of it?
If fired right
It caused a bomb to explode
Setting off a formula
seen by Einstein
Energy equals
mass times
a very big number
squared....
so the more mass,
The more energy...
This energy each of us holds inside
As if each of us were a walking bomb
With no detonator
We are too stable
to be upset by a mere neutron being fired into us..
So we have stability
And Energy
More than we could ever comprehend
