My thumb

With you I grasp
With you we smashed other species
The space bar you hit
Thumbs up
Life without thumb
Thumbless
Would be hard
Who made you
Was it God?
Or Evolution

Or both?
Did God create evolution?
Which God though?
God of the Bible?
Or some other God?
What if there was no God?
Would that really matter?

Many intelligent people believe
Doctors, Scientists
Mechanics
Astrophysicists
MENSA champs
Why this need for meaning?
Is it that consciousness
And the beauty of this world
And the troubles we face

We need something to believe in
As well as something that is bigger than us
Protective
And yet fear inspiring?
And Loving?
We all need that instinct
Of a father or a mother?

Is it a wonder that we say,
O father who art in heaven
The maleness of it
Seems so certain
O mother who art in heaven
Sounds strange
What is it about maleness?

Do we trust maleness more?
Is femaleness not good enough?
Why not?
Male is action and doing?
Female is protection and nuture?
We see some of this mirrored in nature
A rutting dear, antlers at the ready
A lady kangaroos protective pouch
The rutting Bull
The homely cow

Tradition is important
Religion too
We hang on to them
They are our clubs
Our societies
We feel safe to navigate the world in them
Even as a nominal role

Some of us actively
Rebuke the idea of God
The atheists
With their mock
jibe, and superior undertone
Or is that just the vocal atheist?
Is there a silent atheist?
Or is that an agnostic

Whatever we are
We are human
All of us
Most of us have thumbs
We can use that as our symbol
Our masonic club sign
The thumbs up
Second only to the
High five

Let's be that team
Work together
As many do
Ride out the time we have
With as much love as we can stand
All of us are us
We are wagons
Wagons of sense

Who rides us
We may never know
But as a team
We can do much
As we have done
But we can do even more
And be kind to our weak
