We Borrow

We borrow this body
Yes it ours for the duration
The atoms each bearing signature trail
The poo and wee, are really outside us
You see the food and the drink
They just nourish us
Or in slow death
Overnutrition kills us
Our beautiful skins
Hiding the damage within
Then eventually showing
Look at me from the inside
Our consciousness give us the right
To call these atoms ours
Our legs our arms our heart
Our donor card of life is ours
Give the gift of life to yourself
Please live before you donate
Or that harvested kidney
Though pristine is soulless
Marry yourself to your body
Your senses,
Let the absence of pain enthrall you
And the pain temper you
You are you and can only be you
7 billion people is not really so much
We are one
Licence to live: you passed at birth
A short time we stay
Life thows us more
God is there
Or not,
Whatever comforts
Your purpose you know
Can change
From minute to minute
To feed, be fed
Deep threads run deep
In all multi-coloured
But poetry, like politics
Has limited audience
Let your actions be your words
Let the words come
When they come
Make contact when it is right
