I am an expression
A flagship
Of evolution

I am a carrier
Of information
Some used to earn
And love

I borrow from
The sodden core
And may pass back

A human relay
Who wins
Not nature
As we know it Jim

Some I influence
This non
Ancestral heritage
Is the grey area

In which we all struggle
Disease with us wrestles
Before the final
Outcome already known

Do not be fooled by
The eternal in us
Our memories fade
And records are others'

The march of time
Is vast
Beyond
Our comprehension

This world we inhabit
Complex
Confusing
Utterly beautiful

Horrid
Ugly
Kind
Lovely

Humans
Sapiens
Have made
Power once thought celstial

Atom bomb
Genetic code
Medical advance
Human right

We are more
Than our cat
We say
More human than chimp

Our friends
Are like wine
Some get drunk
Others remain prized

Our ambitions
Sometimes quelled
In the heat
