the thief of time ...

...

i am on a really tight deadline this week ... i am finishing my second novel ...

the reason i am finishing it is because it MIGHT get called in tomorrow as part of the kitchen table muppets comp and how could i ever look myself in the eye if it DID get called in and i hadnt finished it?

so on tuesday i wrote 6k words

yesterday i wrote 3 k ... went foraging at the tip ... stopped myself from shopping and then went to my new evening class ...

today i have written 623 words

been to sainsbury's

eaten toast

mailed ferg x 3

read purplehaze's diary

clicked on the forums 27 times

peered into my neighbours gardens

clicked on the guardian forums 12 times

now i am doing this and wondering if it's time for some more toast ...

WHY?

i need to write another 8k words TODAY ...

why am i pissing the time away?????????????

get back to work!
O the irony of a response from Mr "Thyme"... Personally, I'm not sure I'd ever have the patience for a novel... If I know how a story's going to end, I get bored of it before I start... Unless I write a novel where I don't know how it's going to end...? Now there's a thought... "P"

The All New Pepsoid the Second!

i finished it! .... hooooooraaaaaaaaaaaaaah ... still i havent had a call from the muppet comp ... did you lou?
Ah yes - my mate Gordon is a finalist. When he got called, he'd only written the first three chapters. This week he's written 91,000 words and finished it. A novel in a week. I hate him beyond expression.
cor i wish i'd known about gordon last week ... then i wouldnt have had to kill myself in case they called it in today ... mind you would not have finished it then would i ... and my prospective new agent is waiting for it ... so perhaps best i didnt know about gordon but well done to gordon!! ... he must be chuffed ... (just dont tell him he's a kitchen table muppet ... tho i have quite taken to the label ...)
But 91k in a *week*?! Arrgghh!!
man, that's 31,000 a day, or 541 an hour or 9 a minute or nearly 1 word every six seconds

91,000 in a week makes sense if you want to win that comp. I wrote a novel in 5 days once, although it was 'only' 50,000. It was for my MA hand in. I tend to write nowt for ages then heaps all at once. Well done to Gordon, but boo hiss that neither I nor fish got through... I was convinced fish was going to win the whole darn thing. Least you have a finished book most wonderful of sea creatures. p.s. 91,000 plus the first 3 chapters. How long is Gordon's book anyway?
Not sure how long the finished thing will be. The first three chapters were 7000 words. He's written it so fast I think he'll have time to go back and cut a few bits out. 50,000 words in a week? I am the only person on Earth who feels a glow of satisfaction after 5000? Am I some kind of literary snail? I'll have to start telling myself it's 'High Art' at this rate.
