Terror After Midnight by Elmo Jackson

This is a well crafted tale of childhood abuse. It's moving, bitter and lacks hope - and is all the stronger for it:

tcook, Thanks for the comment. People sometimes ask me why I found a necessary to write about such a sensitive subject. And I respond that I wrote Terror After Midnight for the survival of my own metal health, and to document the event for others. Maybe in some weird psychological way I am seeking to escape my own knowledge of the events of that day—I don‘t know. The real life events that took place in Terror After Midnight return to haunt me from time to time. As the years have past and I've grown older I have developed a kind of numbness regarding the events of that day—at least in my waking hours. But when sleep does come my ability to block out the tragic events of that day grows weaker and I am forced to relive them again.
A very powerful piece that really illustrates how helpless children can be. You mnage to write this with emotion and passion but with a level of detachment that allows you to describe the event without overwhelming your reader in pity. Your descriptions are vivid and evocative, and the dialogue realistic. I'n sure many people will relate to elements of this. Juliet
