Has anyone else had problems logging in to this site? According to Tony's email, it's supposed to use the username and password from this site.

So far: the email I have registered here doesn't work, nor does the email I used to use here work, and by work I mean be recognized by etribes as valid. I can get a password reset sent, but I have no idea what email account it's gone to, unless etribes is being very slow and it will end up in my current email account sometime in the next few days.

Aside from that, it looks nice.

Maybe they did send some note thru email about the account some while ago, I had 1053 spams in my bulk mail folder so I doubt I would have seen it.

Iceman, they send the paswords to me and I haven't had one for you yet. They are sent to me as e-tribes do not have your email addresses - under Data Protection protocols. The problem with this has been establishing a decent system without giving away any of your data. Hundreds have managed to log in, so it hasn't been a failure - but there are some (about 30), of whom you are one, who have not been able to log in. I don't know what the glitch is but we are working on trying to eradicate it. I will send you your new password as soon as I get it. Cheers, Tony
I had the same problem Iceman - so I emailed eTribes and Kieran from customer support reset the password and emailed me the new one. Just send a short email to support@etribes.com - make it plain what your eTribes user name is - and you should soon be sorted.
I did as Mykle suggested, and Kieran responded quickly/was very helpful in sorting out my password prob! Good stuff : )

Having a look about on it - very similar to bebo.com, bit more sophisto - me like. I've got an account with flickr too, which has got a wee bit more gallery functionality but not much room for text. This seems to be a halfway house.
It appears that the terms and conditions include an agreement to allow them to pass on your email address to other sites THEY 'think you may be interested in'. In other words ... spam spam spam No thank you.

Thanks for flagging that Missi - I will check it out.
I havent gone through the process of logging in as yet, using iceman, although in the meantime I did setup a test account there using an email reserved for they-might-well-send-me-spam sites. My understanding is that the site owners should allow their users to opt out if they are being fair and reasonable. As Missi points out, if they are passing on the email address then eTribes regrettably is just a marketing exercise, tempting users with a blog in exchange for passing a valid, known and working email address to "other sites". If you guys want a fair and reasonable site, check out sdf.lonestar.org -- it's a shell account for Unix, they do NOT pass on your email address. It's also pretty secure as you can log in using a SSH (secure shell) and this encrypts your password.

"we reserve the right to share your contact information and other service usage data with that partner, referrer or affiliate so that they may contact you in the course of their business." It isn't even opt in! On the front registration page for people signing up independently they ask for mobile phone number. This makes me a bit sus of the outfit. I would NEVER give out my mobile number. Spam emails are annoying. Spam texts are daylight robbery. RECEIVING a spam text can cost YOU up to £1 whether or not you open it. Assuming that in accordance with the clause above they can pass on your mobile details this could prove an expensive endeavour. Even if signing up via abc doesn't put you at risk of this, I could never support a site that sends spam texts at cost to recipient. Sorry for my cynicism Tony but it smells to me! Even if it didn't, I have my own website and several free blogs I don't see the point of starting anything else up. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Hi all - thanks for your comments about etribes Life - we are taking them all on board. Seriously! With regard to accessing sites - because we created the ABCTales sites without your email addresses, if you request a new password, we need to send it to you via ABCTales (hence the time delay). Feel free to contact us directly on support@etribes.com (giving your username). Re: T&Cs - the bit about sharing details with Partners etc. does sound too open. It's meant to protect our Partners (like ABCTales) so that they know how many of their users have taken up the offer. We're going to clarify this. RE: mobile numbers... We ask for these because we're about to add moblogging to etribes Life - so you can just text your photos from your nobile phone onto your LifeSite. It's nothing sinister - honestly! But again - point taken - we need to clarify this. etribes is a new service and we're learning every day - so keep the feedback coming. We'll have a multi-photo upload going live next week - so you'll be able to upload 1000s of photos (if you like)... be great to hear what you think! Cheers Luke LifeSite: www.etribes.com/lukebj
