A Scanner Darkly

I'm really eager to see this film. As you may know it is based on the Philip K. Dick book of the same name. The thing that appeals to me most (aside the great cast) is the incredible visuals, not quite animation but not real, somewhere in between. If anyone has read the book I'd love to hear how it was.

Haven't read the book but also excited about the film. The fanboy in me is also overexcited about Spidey 3. The start of the trailer shows Parker in the Venom suit at night (black on black on black)- a great image - can't wait for the movie. Oh, and while I'm at it, Superman Returns looks amazing too! Never read it either, but the plot sounds good – kind of Fight Club, but good. We don’t get to the movies much, but I think I’ll put this one in the saved section of my NetFlix queue. Drawback: it stars Keanu Reeves.
The book's great. Was one of the first PKD books I bought - oddly Burroughsesque.
To me it looks like Memento a bit. One of my Fav films I personaly look forward to Pirates Of the Carabean 2.

Give me the beat boys and free my soul! I wanna getta lost in ya rock n' roll and drift away. Drift away...

Read a lot of PKD when i were a lad but I don't think I've read that one. Did you know his robot's been stolen. Film nerd stuff, the visuals are called rotoscoping (drawing animation cells over live images), Ralph Bakshi did it with his early attempt to film lord of the rings. I'm guessing they've got some fancy computer algorithm to do it here, but I don't know that for sure.

My favourite Dick book, not sci-fi as such, more a tale of druggy paranoia, but it's a whole lot better than it sounds. (The man knew what he was talking about too - a complete loon, read his biography). There are clips of the film on a Warner Bros wewbsite too. I just hope Reevesy doesn't make a right pig's ear of it.
Although I'm a fan of Keanu, don't fret, with Woody Harrelson and Robert Doney Jr. to back him up he can't screw up too bad.

Reevesy was wonderful in The Matrix and Constantine... Don't knock the lad! I'm sure he'll do fine... :-) * P * :-) ( Read my blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )

oh i love Keanu's movies. I just say it for the others peace of mind.

But us Keanu fans should stick together, Pyro! Take a stance! Stick to our big, black slow-moving guns! Fight as one! (or perhaps The One... (O dear...)) :-) * P * :-) ( Read my blog! - www.oddcourgette.blogspot.com )

Keanu can't really mess it up, his character is pretty morose in the novel. This is just as well since this is what we get from him in every film, and why I hated his John Constantine so much. Scanner Darkly should be bitching. As for SM 3, they're having a bit of license with the whole venom thing, the man in the suit should (eventually) be Eddie Brock, but if they're going to stick with Parker throughout this could still work. The problem with Marvel's continuity is thrown up by the arrival of Carnage late on, but he may be a little brute and cartoon-like for movie audiences.

Is that true? Only parker in the suit? That's a disappointment, I must say. The Eddie Brock story's a peach. I fear the whoe thing might end up a bit thinly spread; in the trailer we see the venom suit, sandman and green goblin...it's a lot of ground to cover. Still, I'm really looking forward to it.
Thomas Haden Church, from Sideways, plays the Sand Man in the story, apparently the other main villain of SM 3. It seems as if Venom is trying to control parker, i like the idea of that.

I think in the film we're looking at Parker being contaminated and staying that way. In the "canon" version of Spiderman, the shit from the moon slopes off and infects Eddie Brock. For the purpose of condensing the film, we might have Parker taunt the symbiote into returning to him, which is how the Venom got smoked in the comics. I'm a big fan of Venom, he's actually a good guy, you know? I hope Raimi deals with Brock's situation with pathos.
