I know one is not supposed to get wound up about such thing's, but I effing HATE rogue apostrophe's!!!!!!
I hate all bad grammar, period! There is more of beauty in a moment's silence than in all the works of tongue or pen...
And this from the same BBC article: "This is the second such error to have blighted a M&S pyjama line." Now this is a tricky one: should M&S be preceded by AN or A?
'..... I effing HATE rogue apostrophe's!!!!!! ' How do you feel about superfluous exclamation marks?

Should that be: "superfluous exclamation marks????????????"?
I'll have to be get them a pocket electronic Oxford English dictionary, thesaurus, and spellchecker, LIKE THE ONE I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!! **moonwalks out of forum** There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

Hey Flashy, have I ever told you I like you?

Bye the way Eamonn, if you wish to read truly bad grammar, published by an organisation with far less excuse than M&S, read The Times. It has some really awful grammar most days. I suppose the ONLY excuse they can offer is ownership by Murdoch.

Bad grammar is irritating, although some of the most intelligent people I know have/use bad spelling and grammar (though none of them work for M&S as far as I know).
But weren't 'correct' grammar and spelling artificially imposed on the language in the eighteenth or nineteenth century? before that people used to say and write and spell however the hell they wanted. I often find myself at odds with what is accepted as correct. There is more of beauty in a moment's silence than in all the works of tongue or pen...
It was imposed because people couldn't understand one another. By Dr. Johnson I believe, but I could be wrong; I often am.

I think you're probably right about Dr Johnson, but I thought it was imposed so the upper class could distinguish themselves from the lower classes . In America, it was a period of striving for uniformity in many things and language followed suit, largely through the efforts of Webster. But people wouldn't have gone on for the hundreds of years before that not understanding each other, would they? There is more of beauty in a moment's silence than in all the works of tongue or pen...
Personally, as long as it doesn't inhibit understanding, I can't be bothered getting irritated by bad grammer... {{{_"P"_}}} ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com - latest... Can We Ever Really Know the Truth About Anything?)

I'm not so bothered by poor grammar in conversations, but M & S markets themselves to a certain social strata; they'd better put the effort in to get things right.
True enough, AG! However, ungrammatical pyjamas aren't going to stop me from salivating over their delightful choc-chip shortbread... :-) {{{_"P"_}}} ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com - latest... Can We Ever Really Know the Truth About Anything?)

As it happens, I quite like you too, Emma.
