A fabulous piece. I'm not too sure of the poetic worth but the story comes through with such corruscating honesty that all else falls into place:

Why aren't you sure of the poetic worth Tony? I'd say it was a really good poem. Cheers, Mark

I'm thinking of cutting the BIG GAY FACE stuff as this works more effectively as a bit of stand-up in my set, it's not totally necessary, though obviously has comic effect. In regards poetic worth, i thought it did, however i think a fair bit is lost with the spacing. my original word document has a lot of lines beginning at the end of the previous one to help create the right flow. I write my poems to be heard, even when they are being read on the page. all that got lost when i cut and pasted and to be honest i didn't have the time and patience to edit it all again, i hope you get enough of the write idea. Thanks for your comments
I usually find Tony's questioning of whether things are poems quite baffling. In this case, I think it does drift into the realm of Michael Rosen poetry. Still more than enough poetic elements for me, though. Anyway, liked it a lot.

Luke, Keep the BIG GAY FACE stuff. I like it. Cheers, Mark

Well, you know what I think.. and I flagged you up in POW! too.
I question when something is poetry or not merely to stimulate that debate - and, I admit, on occasion to get guidance myself. This though is very definitely a poem - what I questioned was whether its use of poetic form is particularly good. Now I know that it was written for performance that makes a lot of sense. It just tells a story very well indeed - and do keep in the BIG GAY FACE bit - it rings so true.
http://www.myspace.com/ralphieloveplusone Yes. Liking this a lot. BIG GAY FACE should stay I think. Luke is a top boy. If you ever get a chance to see him perform, then you really should. I saw his Edinburgh show, and it deserved all the praise that it recieved. Nice one squirrel.

Shame you're not still at the Bloomsbury, Ralph. You could've booked him to do a show.

http://www.myspace.com/ralphieloveplusone Well, I'm thinking of having him at the Millfield sometime. We are doing John Hegley early next year and we had LKJ last week. So we we are doing well on spoken word events. Always room for Luke though, he is defo on my radar.
