Guy Ritchie, RocknRolla

has anyone seen or heard of Ritchie's new film RocknRolla? gangsters, stolen cash, a big twist, dry humor...not exactly a stretch for Ritchie (but considering his last two stretch films Revolver and Swept Away, maybe that's not a bad thing)

I've heard its just as good as Snatch and Lock Stock.

fake Mockney!

It's only just out here - and I think I'll wait until it's on DVD and get it out of the shop. I can't really be bothered to go and see some mindless twaddle from Mr Madonna.
really? u won't see a movie because I guys maried to that pop whore? people still watch Roman Polanski's films and he's a f*&#ing rapist.

Give me the beat boys and free my soul! I wanna getta lost in ya rock n' roll and drift away. Drift away...

ok i admit that Guy Ritchie isn't the greatest but RocknRolla does seem preety good and as far as i've read it has had good reviews. If it is similar to his other films i.e Snatch and Lock, Stock then fair play because he knows exactly what people want from him and RocknRolla will definently bring in an audience.
they're prob the only british set of films that americans enjoy more than brits. most of my friends love Lock Stock and Snatch, as do I. in no way is it realistic, please, that's why its a movie. teenagers don't talk like rocket scientists like in Juno (at least ellen page) or Brick, but then again normal teenage talk isn't particularly interesting.

Mike, I think you'll find the films were prettypopular over here. The problem stems from Guy Ritchie acting like one of the lads, then believing it and writing films as if he was one of the lads that ends up taking the piss out of the people represented in the films ie often a certain class. Now if someone really is from that background they often write a comedy type film that doesn't come across quite so patronising, the people involved will also laugh along. But back to the firs point, Guy Ritchie's films were probably more popular here than in the U.S. Craig
I should add though, despite the above, I did find Snatch funny, take the stereo types out of it and the script was funny and the acting okay. Craig
"they're prob the only british set of films that americans enjoy more than brits. most of my friends love Lock Stock and Snatch, as do I. in no way is it realistic, please," Well, they're probably actually marginally closer to what real life's like in Britain the Four Weddings and a Funeral or Notting Hill.

It's the film style that I don't like. Don't get me wrong - I love a good British thriller like Long Good Friday but mr madonna's films are so badly shot that they drive me mad. It's a background in film I'm afraid - I do know how a sequence should be composed and love it when directors break the rules and go crazy (knowingly) but GR's films are just plodding and that's about the worst thing I can say about them. The plots are OK, the characterisations are cartoony and OK on that level, the acting tends to be pretty good - but the filming. Oh dear.
