Electric Cars

From the Metro

Chris Paine is the director of documentary film Who Killed The Electric Car?, which suggests that electric cars are reliable, fun, cleaner for the environment and could help end global conflicts over oil resources. It also asks who was responsible for sabotaging the idea: car firms, oil companies or consumers?

"Well, our little murder mystery has seven suspects. The car industry is probably involved the most, with the oil companies right behind them ' they poured so much money into getting the US government to kill the electric-car programmes."

I loved his description of oil as 'Middle Eastern Crack'. It kind of echoes what Al Gore was saying about the fact we will always be in deep poo whilst we are so dependant on such a volatile part of the world.

We will always be in deep poo… full stop (or “period” to our American friends… although I’ve always found it a little disconcerting the idea that there is a “period” at the end of every sentence). The trick is to learn to like the smell of the poo. Or to build a nice poo-house out of it. As far as electric cars go… yes, I too am saddened that Sinclair C5’s and their brethren were doomed before they got off the ground (so to speak). Quiet, slow (therefore less likely to cause accidents (at least serious ones)), less energy-guzzling and quirky to boot! And while we’re on the subject… What happened to moving sidewalks? Robot slaves? Weekend jaunts to the moon? Nuclear-powered universal food machines? Hmm? ~PEPS~ “Underlay is overrated."
