The big caching/login thread
What we know for sure is that the site itself is behaving correctly. Those of you who are having refresh-cached-pages problems are suffering from a problem which is introduced *somewhere* between ABCtales.com's web server and your monitor.
The question is one of identifying where.
And it's entirely possible that different people are experiencing problems caused by more than one cause, but with only one outcome.
So please post your issues here.
I need to know:
- Which browser you're using, and which version (your browser version number can be seen by choosing 'About' from the 'Help' menu.
- Which operating system and version (Windows 98/XP/etc, Mac OS 9/X/etc). So far I'm not aware of anyone at all having issues on a Mac.
- Who your ISP is. Are you at college, work, or home? Is it AOL, BT, or someone else?
- What else do you have installed which may be causing trouble? I'm looking for internet firewall software, antivirus programs, or anything network-related which has stuffed its icon into the space next to the clock in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
Additionally, because I've made a tweak or two this week, please *do not* post until you've done the following:
In Microsoft Internet Explorer: Select 'Options' or 'Internet Options' from the "Tools" menu. Push the 'Delete Cookies' button and the 'Delete Files' button. (This will log you out.)
In Mozilla Firefox: Select Options from the Tools Menu. Select 'Privacy' at the top of the resulting box. Push the 'Clear Cookies' button. (This will log you out.)
Finally, if at any point during the login process, you were asked if you wanted to accept a 'cookie' from ABCtales.com and said "No", please don't ever talk to me again. If you have installed a browser extension whose purpose is to block cookies, ditto.
Currently I have my suspicions about culprits (they include, but are not limited to, the words "AOL" and/or "Norton"), but I'm not acting on anything until I see data.
Right then.
Now we have our groundrules, please post away. I'm pinning this topic to the top of the front page so it doesn't get lost.
