Quick Question for All

Hi all

Just wanted to clarify: after perusing several forum rule pages and past forum posts, I have a question to humbly put to you all. I have found, both from personal experience as well as that of others, that drawing attention to your own writing using the forum as a base is discouraged and sometimes even scorned on ABC tales. Consdering the fact that on no code of conduct on this website has it been mentioned in any manner that it is a fully established rule to use the forum to invite comments on your own writing, I would like to ask this: on what basis do you tell users to discontinue this sort of advertisement? Has it previously been decided that it is not acceptable, or is it just not a done thing on the website?
I will gladly accept any sort of enlightenment.

Thanks,
Natalia :)

NB: This post is not intended to be malicious or accusatory in any way. I just want to know what the expectations are on the website so that I can conform with them.

If everyone did it, the forum section would be like the reading section, and nothing of special interest would stand out, I suppose it's a bit like que jumping, or making sure your piece gets more chance of being read over others, it ain't 100% fair

I always write in the forum please, please, please read my work and I'll read yours. I always lie about the second part. And nobody ever reads what I write. But I deserve it since I'm a throughly bad person.

Don't conform! Rebel against those who may scorn or look down their noses, laugh up their sleeves or pour custard down their trousers. Shake the system up!
Funnier than hell, celticman.

Thanks all Cleared my thinking heaps :)

Natalia - you will find that if you comment on the work of others then you will get comments yourself. It just works like that! Your work is so good that I'm sure you will attract a lot of worthwhile reaction. Cheers, Tony
I've decided to comment on one postiin by others for every poem or story I post. That's seems like a code of conduct that will most effectively prevent the site from losing momentum and just becoming a repository of unread things. can think of no betr way to ensure I get comments and value for posting. I'm currently ahead by 4 more comments posted for others than poems posted myself... I'd encourage this approach over any other! Until people start telling me they hate my comments at least... Thanks, Tony. TheGameCat- I must say I like your take on things. All your posts were really helpful.

Dear Natalia, as Tony Cook says, comment on others and they will comment on yours. I aim to comment on at least two for every one I post. With so many writers posted, it takes a long time to post very often. There are so many good writers, I find it difficult to tell someone how to make it better. I get a lot out of other postings, such creativity. Above all, write, write. Richard LP

I imagine it's much like the outside world, try to get yourself noticed by being subtle and you'll naturally get there. Asking to be looked at will annoy anyone whereas if you just show yourself every now and again it'll happen naturally.
