Yep, it makes perfect sense (thank you, Paul!), but flippin' 'eck! I'm laughing (at your witty explanation) but I'm also crying. I'm a writer of fiction, not business reports and scientific journals. As such I don't need unnecessarily complicated tags; I need simplicity like b, i, and u. I occasionally need to underline, not to emphasise a point as I can easily do that in other ways, but for other reasons. For example, in a piece I'm developing now there's a para that reads as follows:
'You wrote the book in 1992; but I wonder when you underlined, in blue ink, that final word? I suspect it was when you knew the cancer had won. And you knew you would never have the courage to say it to my face; it was far too late for that.'
The last sentence in the mentioned book is then quoted, and on my ms I've obviously underlined that sentence's final word. That I can't now transfer that underlined word to ABCtales, a writing site, purely because the web community (affiliated only to business it would seem) disapproves of anything that isn't considered advanced enough seems quite mad!
But thanks again for the explanation - I learn something new on here every day! :-)
And we must all be deeply grateful to FTSE for the huge amount of work he has put into sorting out the site - and all for the love of it.
I am on my knees in gratitude.
