i really need a copy of the above titled mervyn peake poem ... does anyone have a copy to hand?

i have googled until my mouse finger hurts ... but i can't find it ...

please help ... it is christmas after all ...

i will be so grateful ...

I do at home...and i am at work right now. It's in my copy of puffin's "I like this Poem" for children edited by Kaye Webb - I'll post it tomorrow. I can only remember Sensitive seldom and sad are we As we wend our way to the wheezing sea

Sensitive, Seldom and Sad are we, As we wend our way to the sneezing sea, With our hampers full of thistles and fronds To plant round the edge of the dab-fish ponds; Oh, so Sensitive, Seldom and Sad Oh, so Seldom and Sad. In the shambling shades of the shelving shore, We will sing us a song of the Long Before, And light a red fire and warm our paws For it's chilly, it is, on the Desolate shores, For those who are Sensitive, Seldom and Sad, For those who are Seldom and Sad. Sensitive, Seldom and Sad we are, As we wander along through Lands Afar, To the sneezing sea, where the sea-weeds be, And the dab-fish ponds that are waiting for we Who are, Oh, so Sensitive, Seldom and Sad, Oh, so Seldom and Sad.

All the capitals are as should be. also the word 'so' in the last line of the first and third stanzas should be in italics.

Simple, seldom and sad We are; Alone on the Halibut Hills Afar, With sweet mad Expressions Of old Strangely beautiful, So we're told By the Creatures that Move In the sky And Die On the night when the Dead Trees Prance and Cry. Sensitive, seldom and sad - Sensitive, seldom and sad - Simple, seldom and sad Are we When we take our path To the purple sea - With mad, sweet Expressions Of Yore, Strangely beautiful, Yea, and More On the Night of all Nights When the sky Streams by In rags, while the Dead Trees Prance and Cry. Sensitive, seldom and sad - Sensitive, seldom and sad.
Winken, Blinken, and Nod one night Sailed off in a wooden shoe -- Sailed off on a river of crystal light, Into a sea of dew. "Where are you going, and what do you wish?" The old moon asked the three. "We have come to fish for the herring fish That live in the beautiful sea; Nets of silver and gold have we!" Said Winken, Blinken, And Nod. The old moon laughed and sang a song, As they rocked in the wooden shoe, And the wind that sped them al night long Ruffled the waves of dew. The little stars were the herring fish That lived in the beautiful sea -- "Now cast your nets wherever you wish -- Never afeard are we"; So cried the stars to the fisherman three: Winken, Blinken, And Nod. All night long their nets they threw To the stars in the twinkling foam -- Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe Bringing the fisherman home; 'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed As if it could not be, And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed Of sailing that beautiful sea -- But I shall name you the fishermen three: Winken, Blinken, And Nod. Winken and Blinken are two little eyes, And Nod is a little head, And the wooden shoes that sailed the skies Is the wee one's trundle-bed. So shut your eyes while mother sings Of wonderful sights that be, And you shall see the beautiful things As you rock in the misty sea, Where the old shoe rocked hte fisherman three: Winken, Blinken, And Nod.

I rather liked wheezing sea.
I know that was false memory syndrome on my part...not a bad mistake though!

Absolutely. I'd say it wheezes more than it sneezes.
I cant remember who wrote Winken Blinken and Nod. Anyone know? Hannah x
Mine is the correct version. Al's is a tribute. Winken blinken and nod was written by one Eugene Field

Were they written with Alan Bennett in mind?
