Into the Great silence

I was invited to the pre-screening of this by soda productions. Nearly three hours of virtually no dialogue and yet I wasn't at all bored or distracted. There is no commentary and no background music. The film is an experience of the monastic life rather than a documentary of it.

The one thing that struck me was how I was left with the sense of 'knowing' the different personalities and therefore how much is communicated with expressions and gestures.

It will be shown in selected cinemas across the UK from Dec 29th.

This should prove interesting; I'm *really* attracted to the monastic life (perhaps in reaction to my frantic efforts to get through a typical day as wife/mother/employee/sometime student). I may still give it a go when the kids have left home. I'll keep an eye out for it!
So next, they will make a movie of paint drying and then a sequal...the grass grows. Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

I do appreciate it will appeal to a minority. And I did hear snoring at one point!!! jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

I think it sounds like a terrific idea - who in the western world can fully accommodate in their heads what it is like to live without the polyphonic white noise of modern life? But three hours sounds a tad on the looooonnng side!
Sounds good, but I can't imagine "enjoying" it at a cinema... Can you really imagine a cinema audience, of whatever size, staying quiet for that long? DVD job, methinks... (or buying every single seat in the cinema)... [[[~P~]]] ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com - latest... Review of "Casino Royale")

It's hardly likely to get a mainstream cinema release. It'll be arthouse only, and yes, there you *can* expect people to be pretty quiet for that long. Hell, I'd rather sit on a busy city street with a camera in hand and watch the street theatre. A favorite passtime. Visit me http://www.radiodenver.org/

You can do both. I'm sure that they're equally comparable to watching paint dry, if your expectation from a viewing experience is a three arc plot and some gunshots. ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe
