It's a pity Dan didn't follow mykle's hint - "After doing a bit of research I find that, astoundingly, the facts would lend themselves very nicely to a Dan Brown sequel! In February 1810, Napoleon... " - and write a truly controversial sequel. I checked and discovered that Napoleon had planned to bring the Vatican to France because he realized its true power: The Roman Empire had subsumed Christianity when the Sun Worshiper, Constantine, adopted Christianity as the state religion (the Illuminatti had taken power with the death of Julius Caesar). The Romans had long since realized the power of the Jewish sorcerers (the Nazirites - Christ, Samson and John The Baptist etc.) and kept children from the most important families in Rome as a deterent for their parents to cause trouble... and this had allowed the Jews to influence Roman politics. They had been very surprised when Christ was not a member of the Royal family as expected. (From Wikipedia) Two examples of Nazirites in the Hebrew Bible are Samson (Judges 13:5), and Samuel (1 Samuel 1:11). In both cases, their mothers made the vows before they were born, which required them to live an ascetic life, yet in return they received extraordinary gifts: Samson possessed strength and ability in physical battle, while Samuel was a prophet. NB women can be Nazirites and the resulting long hair was probably less of a giveaway for them. It is fairly obvious that the power of the Samson like Nazirites is related to their genetic inheritance (I think Christ and John were cousins) and if you think about it the bible goes to great lengths to detail the genetic chain which lead to Jesus Christ. Christ had prophesied that the power would leave the Jews and this was taken to mean that the gene would pass to the gentiles. Eventually this lead to the persecution and murder of any woman who it was deemed likely to be carrying the gene - the persecution of the witches. The Vatican eventually realized that keeping its power would be far easier if it pretended that it was no longer concerned with politics and power - so it continued to rule but via puppet leaders. So the power of Christianity waned but the power of the Illuminatti grew. It was feared that Christ might have been wrong and hence the Vatican supported Hitler in his bid to crush the power of the Jews and subjugate them once more. However the power of the Jews in the US had been greatly underestimated and despite huge financial and scientific inducements from Germany the Americans eventually decided to join the Allies. Well, you get the idea! Now, all Dan needed to do was to link in the Red Dragon (Communist China) which is also looking for the new Messiah in its bid to overthrow World Capitalism and predict what role President Obama will play in this confrontation - come to think of it, I can see why Dan chose the easy option ;O)

I must say I hadn't seen it as taking on the Jews, China, or even the Roman Catholic church. I mean it wasn't the Jews who crucified Christ - just a small elite who didn't want Him ruining their operation. It's the same with the RC church, most Catholics are good people and many fought against Hitler in the war. Let's face it, the same is true of Capitalism too - it's a small elite that controls the financial system and profits no matter what. If you look around you can see that The System is NOT designed to reward the good, the moral and the honest! Despite all the promises about banks being forced to change it is obvious that the only real change was that they got money for free (from government) instead of having to work for it :O) Amazingly, they still paid themselves big bonuses and it seemed that nothing at all was done about it! Surely this is corruption on a grand scale and it all has its roots somewhere. I'm just suggesting that it would make a great story to posit that there is some organization (which I'm terming the Illuminati for lack of a better word) which has been around for a very long time and which has been working toward world domination. This group would have at its disposal powers which we would probably call magical and the only thing that it fears would be the The Chosen One :O) Yeah, it's a bit like The Matrix meets Star Wars but then no harm in that!

Well, yes, which is why I thought he missed a great chance. By the way, Chuck, if you're wondering why it has taken so long for the Illuminatti to get so close to World Domination... it was because intelligent people kept rumbling their plans and spoiling them. It wasn't until the Illuminati hit on the plan of having the world run by people whose only talent is in passing exams (preferrably with degrees in Geography) that the whole system became so clogged with inept management that no-one notices anything since they are too busy either trying to find someone who can do their job for them or trying to cover their mistakes!
