ROBERT MACFARLANE
Robert Macfarlane is a travel writer, cultural historian and literary critic. His first book, Mountains of the Mind, was published in 2003
and won the Guardian First Book Award, the Somerset Maugham Award and the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year award. His second book, The Wild Places, was published in 2007 and was broadcast as Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4. He was a Man Booker judge in 2004 and is a Fellow in English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Robert Macfarlane will be in conversation with Professor Jon Cook.

JOHN CAREY on WILLIAM GOLDING
John Carey, celebrated writer and critic, will be talking about the first biography of Nobel Prize-winning novelist William Golding.
Drawing almost entirely on materials that have never before been made public, John Carey sheds new light on William Golding. John Carey chaired the Booker Prize judges in 1982 and the Man Booker judges in 2003. In 2005 he chaired the first Man Booker International Prize.

DIANA ATHILL in conversation with IAN JACK
Diana Athill is the author of Yesterday (about her Norfolk childhood), Stet (about her career as an editor with Andre Deutsch) and Somewhere Towards the End (about growing older in her 80s). These books have been re-issued in one volume with an introduction by Ian Jack. Diana Athill is now a very lively 91 years of age.

ROSE TREMAIN
Rose Tremain, a graduate of UEA, is a novelist, short story writer, radio and screenwriter. Her novels have won numerous awards including the James Tait Memorial prize, the Prix Femina Etranger, and the Sunday Express Book of the Year. Her novel, The Road Home won the 2008 Orange Prize for women’s fiction and her new novel Trespass is published in Spring 2010. Rose Tremain will be in conversation with Professor Jon Cook.
