Snag

She scared me in Primark;
I was trying to buy some pants.
She had bunches
of black sports socks
that she shook
like grottershank.
"Haha, she said,
"we once went on a date,
and it was awful,
and now we find it really hard
to feel comfortable
in each other's presence.
I was holding a pair of boxers
that were five percent spandex.
"Who's the lucky lady? she asked.
"Listen, it's not
that I didn't find you interesting,
it's just that¦ well,
I find all conversation
' all communication really '
to be essentially duplicitous.
Hand signals, for example,
who's idea was it to make hello
and goodbye the same?
Text messages have more
subtext than The Wasteland,
I can't stand it.
"Uh huh, she said,
"sounds great. How about
Marzano's on Thursday?
