We are nothing like ants.
First off, ants don't read magazines
or suffer from depression.
One ant is pretty much the same
as the next ant.
Even the ones with wings
are not hugely distinct.
They do build things,
but without any of the sophisticated tools
and with little architectural nous.
Sometimes they look ridiculous
carrying a hexagonal segment
of leaf like a human being
trying to read an old-style broadsheet.
Ants do not mourn. They carry the carcass
away and use it for food.
One ant is as good as the next ant.
When we sign up to a new GP
they ask us if, in the event of our death,
our insides can be cut out and used again.
We are nothing like ants.
Tick boxes allow us to specify
if there's any particular organ
that we should like to hold on to.
