Waking up to find a rodent bludgeoned
by a simple spring mechanism
Alastair wondered if there was perhaps an easier way.
He imagined his own skull,
crushed beneath a lorry tyre,
popping like a spot.
He picked up the paring knife,
took off his T-shirt,
and walked to The Quadrant.
He treated the shop assistants
with so much respect,
a jutting, lunar grin on his chops,
then, the automatic doors to Debenhams
opened and the smell of the perfume
was a wave of perfect calm
so he stepped into the even, overhead lighting
and put the knife in to his thighs
and his neck and, I think,
he certainly felt a great deal of regret
as everything seemed possible
in those final minutes.
He thought the women looked sexy
as they screamed
at his oxygenated blood
which was a perfect colour match
for the lipstick entitled:
"No, I’m not a waitress".
