Red Shoes
Beside the bed they appear
taps or jazz or pumps
a brand new pair
daily at least sometimes more
"Put me on "they say dance this idea into poetry
I arrange them when I should be
doing something else
slip them on luxuriously try out a few steps
turn them this way and that
tuck them into tissue nests
Each has its own box, stacked neatly
in order
but I think they would rather
have me dance like Isadora
I waltzed into Waterstones , nearly fell over in Ottakers
sashayed in to Sevillana, flamenco a bit of fiction
found confectionary from Alice to Wonka
the soft centres all said" eat me"
hummed lubriciously like chocolate
Non Fiction, the chewy toffees,
claimed to last longer
they whispered of caramel
with bits of knowledge swirled in
praline on the palate
blood sugar surged
red shoes lifted onto pointe
pleading to pas de deux
get all balletic with books
And on the news
an absolute aversion
to thinking
smirked
triumphantly anorexic
a Crystal Nacht for creativity
Isadora phobic for sure
I'd better hide the red shoes
