Ms. Johnson pushed me into the cushioned chair that was seated beside the principal’s office. She opened the wooden door to the office and stomped inside. “It’s her again”, she shouted. Then I heard a soft thump and realized that Ms. Johnson had slammed her fist on the grand oak desk that the principal always sat behind. “Thank you” It was the deep voice of the dreaded Orangutan a.k.a. the principal of Lake Orchard Middle and High School.
Ms. Johnson gave a loud grunt and stormed out of the principal’s office, shooting an evil glance in my direction as she past. I leaned over the arm of the chair to see the Orangutan’s eyes widen and his mouth opened a slight, staring at the old hag walking away.
I gave a little giggle and he finally seemed to notice me. He frowned and motioned for me to come in. I stood up and walked into the dull office of the Orangutan. He pointed to the chair across the room the desk but I remained standing in the threshold, arms crossed, face expressionless, and eyes full of rage. This little trick was nicknamed the death stare by some kids who cowered in fear of me, but I rather enjoyed the name. So I kept it.
When the Orangutan realized I wasn’t going to move he cleared his throat and reached into a drawer, pulling out a referral. He started filling in the basics: my name, birthday, and grade. He knew all of it.
After scribbling all that down he raised his eyes to my face, noticing my death stare and quickly moved his eyes back to the referral. Even the principal was afraid of me, I love my life.
Still staring at the referral, the Orangutan asked what had happened. I smiled as I remembered the stupid fat boy who had gotten in my way. He was leaning against my locker, chatting with some other kids. I had come up behind him and noticed he was blocking my locker. I gave a tiny whisper “Move” and I know her heard me because goose bumps traveled up his arm. He knew who I was, everyone knew my voice.
I didn’t know what his problem was but he was in my way and he wasn’t moving. I slammed my textbook that was in my hand down onto the floor. The kid’s friends ran off and I saw the boy flinch but he didn’t move. Full of rage I kicked him square in the back, knocking him away from my locker and onto the floor.
When the kid fell to the floor I began my combination on the lock. The boy stood up, rubbing his nose angrily. I saw kids crowding around us, chanting “Fight, fight, fight”. The boy looked around, knowing he would be made fun of if he backed down, so he lifted his fists and began to charge.
I swung to my left, dodging the punch and brought up my own fist to his stomach. The boy moaned a little but came with a second attack. He lifted his foot to kick me. I jumped over the foot and punch him right in the kisser, while in mid-air. When I landed, the boy was lying on his back and this time his nose was dripping blood. The boy wasn’t looking at me. He was looking at the ceiling. His eyes searching it wildly while classmates started to crowd around him. I picked up my books, threw them in my locker and walked away.
I was heading toward the cafeteria for lunch. Then I heard the obnoxious sound of heels pounding the school tiles and an old hag’s voice telling me to “stop where I was, young lady”.
The Orangutan shook his head as he wrote more on the referral. His red hair swishing this way and that. His red hair was one of the reasons the students called him the Orangutan. The other reasons were his arms which were too long for him and his broad shoulders. The name caught on and eventually every teacher called him the Orangutan. Well except Ms. Johnson.
The Orangutan placed the referral on his desk and stared at me with worried eyes. I frowned at him, what was his problem? The Orangutan let out a deep sigh and spoke some horrifying words. “You are expelled” but that wasn’t the worst part. When I shrugged he said “and the only school that will accept you is Ocean Breeze Middle and High.” My arms unfolded and fell to my side and frown turned into raised eyebrows.
The Orangutan nodded his head, I was going to Ocean Breeze. Filled with rage I snatched the referral off his desk and stormed out, slamming the door behind me. Leaned against the wall, feeling horrified. I didn’t want to go to Ocean Breeze no, no, no, no, no!
All of a sudden I heard a slight gasp and looked up to see a girl staring at me. I was about to scream “What’s your problem?” but then I realized that she was amazed to see me so scared. I wiped it off my face and gave her the death stare. Now the girl’s look of curiosity as gone and was replaced by fear. She took a couple steps back, not knowing if I was going to strike. I just continued to give her the death stare until she decided to run. My normal instinct would be to run after her and beat on her until she promised not to tell anyone what she had seen but the thought of enrolling in Ocean Breeze stopped me dead in my tracks.
