The Mark of Cain

Strolling through the forest
Ancient with decay
Temperature starts rising
On this hot and humid day
Thunderbolts
Lighting
Cascades of warm wet rain
Release in me
The deity
They call
The Mark of Cain
-
Stricken at birth
Afflicted
Cursed from the very first breath
To wander through life
Forever
Alone
Enshrined in this bizarre living death
-
Ten thousand fingers
Caress me
Bedevil passionate skin
Beat of the heat
Thrill of the chill
Consummate
The
Original
Sin
-
Mind begins to wander
Eyes begin to scan
Rising tide
Burns deep
In
Me
My
Need
To
Seed
A
Man
-
I spy one in the meadows
Taking shelter from the storm
I
Am
Not
Gregarious
By
Nature
But …
Watch
Me
Now
Perform

I toss back my hair full of contempt
I’m Brazen
I’m Bold
Bodacious
Unkempt
-
Confidence
Starts
Coursing
Through
My soiled veins
Needs will soon be sated
Unleashed
By
Corrosive
Chains
-
As
I
Venture closer
Something’s not quite right
The vision of the man I saw
Starts fading in the light
So I gather up the pace
Before my orchid does explode
Eager and keen
To fulfill the curse
And
Reset the hereditary code
-
I demand order out of chaos
As Pythagoras did teach
But my man has disappeared
Have you seen him?
I beseech
I scour the meadows and valleys
Hunting high and low
Who is the one who has stolen my man?
Who desiccated this turbulent flow?
-
Suddenly …
I sense a movement
Flitting through the trees
It is hard to locate the owner
As it shoots the ballsy breeze
-
But ..
I am not a defeatist
I will get my dues
So I make a run for it
Determined
To
Detonate this fuse
-
But …
There is something vaguely familiar
About the form that I do chase
And as I catch up hungrily
I stare into its face
-
I fear my eyes betray me
My scream
A silent sound
My doppelganger
Smiles
As I fall onto the ground …
