One by One
It’s early in the evening, there is talking, laughter and love as you sit with your family – be it your partner, your parents, your siblings, your children, your friends…everyone that matters to you. Those you trust, those you love. As the talk fades to a warm, drowsy close, one by one you go to bed, settling down and trusting that you will sleep soundly and wake refreshed and happy.
In the dead of the night you are woken by a scream. Terrified you grope around for the light as you hear the cries of panic and the shrieking of fear filling every corner of your home. The screaming intensifies and you clamber from your bed desperate to find out what is happening to your family.
One by one you are torn from your home and pulled into the blackness outside before being thrown into the back of a cold metal van. There is no light and no air. As the van tears through the night your family and you are injured as you struggle to stay standing. Your eyes can see nothing but your ears hear the horrified sobbing of your family as you try to reach them in the darkness. Without warning the van stops.
The doors open and you are blinded by an artificial white light that stings your eyes.
One by one you are dragged from the van. Desperate, you cling to your loved ones until a stranger shoves you apart, kicking you to the floor. You are forced into an empty metal room, pushed and pulled across the floor as you struggle to fight, beaten repeatedly with a metal club.
One by one your family is dragged to a corner of the room. The corners make it much harder for them to run. You are forced to watch as the strangers take the first of your loved ones and shoot them between the eyes. As their screaming pain cuts deep into your bones, your legs buckle with fear, your bladder gives and you slump helplessly into the pooling blood of your family. One by one they are butchered in front of you as you watch sickened and scared.
Suddenly you are the only one left and the strangers approach…
This is how the meat and fish that you eat gets to your plate.
Next time you buy food remember this.
Remember your family and friends and the love you feel for them.
One by one, you can make a change today.
