I awoke from an uneasy sleep at the top of the house, the wind was licking at the window pane... Outside the clouds obscured the moon, and the brightest star flickered like a candle...
I lay on the bed full stretch and listened, what had woken me? From the front doorway a voice clamoured insistantly, "Let me in, let me in..." She was female and fairly young, and beside her two children lent their voices to the appeal to be let in...
I couldn't see them no matter how hard I looked through the glass. There appeared to be no-one at the door. I don't usually let strangers in after midnight. It was a nightmare, and nightmares shouldn't ever be let in.
The voices outside faded on the wind. Perhaps they'd travelled from somewhere else... A strange and awful reminder that the world was full of variety, in the streets nearby...

Kitty had come into the shop the day before, she was wide eyed and shocked, "What's happened? I asked.
She shook her head and followed Phyliss into the kitchen. Two minutes later she ran outside and disappeared up the street into the city.
"What's wrong?" I asked Phyliss feeling oddly confused.
"She had a demonic encounter," she said quietly, "I suggested that she talked to a priest."
"How?"
"She was trying to communicate to the tormenters last night, and all of a sudden, she heard a new voice. A child between the legs of the woman. It was demonic, on a different frequency, and full of evil. Don't luagh. I think she told the truth."
"I wouldn't laugh," I said, stung, "It's not as if we don't know the truth. I might even be able to name the criminals, only if I did, I might end up dead."

Later Kitty came back looking much better, "How did it go?" I asked curiously.
"Did Phylliss tell you?" she said quietly, "I told her too."
"Yes, just the bare bones of it all." I replied, "Will the priests be able to help?"
"I'm not certain, the church is so ingrained in all of this, that I feel that I should go in and shout, Who made my father's house into a den of thieves!"
"So you didn't ask them?"
"I went and talked to one of them, yes, only he didn't seem to believe. That''s half the problem, the lack of belief."
"This demon - what did it say?"
"It said, Mother you promised I could go play with her, you said I could go inside to play with her. - and it wasn't friendly."
"What did you do?" I'm not sure I'd have known what to do.
"I said sharply, Don't you know not to play with Demons?" Kitty licked her bottom lip anxiously, "And when she said there was no Demon there, I knew that she was lying because she pointed out to the Demon that it couldn't pass through the door. Because I won't let them in."
"Isn't it Vampyres you don't let in?"
"I don't think Vampyres really exist. I mean, how do they suck out blood through their teeth? Or do they plunge their molars in and then just suck... Demons, though might exist. And I don't think its a good idea to treat it as a joke or let them in." A tear dropped on her cheek, and suddenly she was crying. "I'm really scared," she said.

"The Dragon men have been seen around," she continued quietly, "Around the garden. I'm not sure if they're friendly or not."
"I've not seen them." I said with interest, "I know about the little people, I've seen and spoken to them."
"These have a certain cast to their heads, mario brothers style, and they all look similar. Mind you white folk thought coloured folk all looked similiar in the past and vice versa." she said firmly as if daring me to challenge her.
"I think they were the ones who surrounded me on a bus early on in their silly radio game show, and might have darted me with something. Perhaps that why they can focus on me so much. The satalite seems to follow me too. Am I going mad?"
"I think we both are." I returned, cutting out a stock design to replace the two that I'd already sold. "I talk to little people and you - well you have been hit on by aliens."

Kitty moved away to begin redressing the shop window with a change of pre-christmas designs. I took to the task of replacing the stock and the hours passed away in a blur of action. It wasn't until coffee that I told them about the woman and children at the door - and that they weren't really outside.
"You sound like you need a priest too!" was the general concensus.
