Mr. Johnson woke up sweating horribly. “Thank God it was just a dream.” He got out of bed slowly so he wouldn’t wake Mrs. Johnson. He went to the boys room and sure enough they were both there, sound asleep in their beds. He quietly went back to his bedroom and went back to sleep.
When he woke up the next morning Mrs. Johnson had already began cooking breakfast and the boys were about to start getting ready for school. He was still somewhat shaken up from his dream but he told himself it was just a dream, and that he was just being crazy. As he got downstairs to the kitchen he could smell the sweet scent of maple syrup and pancakes. This was his favorite breakfast. Mr. Johnson called the boys down to eat breakfast. After breakfast was over Mr. Johnson got the boys into his truck and took them to school and then he had to head off to work. Mrs. Johnson decided that while Mr. Johnson and the boys were away, she would bake cookies and take them with her as she visited all of the neighbors. She very much liked all of their new neighbors, especially Mrs. Robinson, who was the closest neighbor. Mrs. Robinson lived right across the street and was a very sweet old lady. Her husband had passed away three years ago and her children were grown and moved away. She felt very bad for the little, old lady. She decided that she would make a habit of visiting her everyday if she was able. A few hours passed since she had arrived there and she realized that Mr. Johnson would be home from work soon and the boys would get home from school around a half hour after. She told Mrs. Robinson that she had to go. Mrs. Robinson said she couldn’t wait for her next visit. Mr. Johnson got home right as Mrs. Johnson got up to the front door. Mr. Johnson gave Mrs. Johnson a kiss and began to tell her about his day. They finally got comfortable on the couch when the children arrived home from school. The boys had a very fun second day at their new school. They both made new friends and made great grades, they couldn’t be happier. The boys went upstairs to play until their bed time while Mr. and Mrs. Johnson watched T.V.
As everybody was drifting off to sleep, Mr. Johnson thought he heard footsteps. He became angry because the boys were supposed to be asleep, they had to get up early for school the next morning. He got out of bed ad went to their bedroom but they were both asleep in bed. Then, he heard footsteps from downstairs. He went downstairs to see what was going on. When he got downstairs he noticed a small girl dressed in a torn up black dress and she was crying. Mr. Johnson was astonished, but he asked her who she was and why she was in their house. The little girl responded by saying that her and her family used to live in the house before the accident. Mr. Johnson asked what accident she was talking about. Before the little girl could respond all of the light in the entire house started flickering and she disappeared. Mr. Johnson suddenly woke up once again sweating. Mrs. Johnson had already began preparing breakfast. Mr. Johnson went over and looked out the window and saw the small girl from his dream standing a few houses down, waiting for the bus. Mr. Johnson asked the boys if they knew her and they said that she never really talks to anybody at school, she just walks by herself. Mr. Johnson shuddered, remembering his dream, and decided to take the day off. He needed to get some rest seeing as how he hadn’t gotten much after the past few days. He decided that he would go with Mrs. Johnson to visit Mrs. Robinson today, and that maybe that would take his mind off things. Mrs. Robinson was very excited to meet him. During the visit, Mr. Johnson had to use the bathroom. As he was walking to the bathroom, he noticed a scrapbook that said “The accident of 55.” Mr. Johnson opened the scrapbook hoping he’d find some answers about the accident. Maybe this was somehow connected with the dream he had last night. As he opened the scrapbook, he was surprised to see that all of the pages were blank. He returned to the family room were his wife and Mrs. Robinson were talking and informed them that he was sick and needed to go home to get some rest. When he got home he decided to take a nap on the couch. He woke up from another horrible nightmare, but for some reason he couldn’t remember what happened. He got up to get water and the boys were already home from school and Mrs. Johnson was already cooking supper. Mr. Johnson decided to try and read up on the accident before supper was finished. He found an article that said,” In 1955, the government had to do testing a new bomb. The testing site was a small town in the middle of nowhere called Bronsburg. Mr. Johnson suddenly got a strange feeling. He looked out the window to se that all of the neighbors were standing in the yard, just like in his dream. They all had on tattered clothing and looked badly hurt. They were all quietly whispering together,” So glad you could join us, now you can never leave.” Mr. Johnson knew this wasn’t a dream. He grabbed his family and they ran to the car. They got in and drove off. Mr. Johnson thought everything was ok. That was until he noticed they had already passed the sign going out of Bronsburg but they just passed their house. “That’s not right,” H said. Then, they passed it again. He looked in the rear view mirror and noticed ine of his sons had his head lowered. Mr. Johnson told hi everything would be ok. The boy lifted his head and said,” No, you can never leave!"
