you drew on your cigarettes

You'd stand drawing on a cigarette
with such languor and contempt.
A scream of dissent,
to the requirements of loss,
you know, that debt
that we must all at times settle.
But you, unyielding, time and time
hand on your hip,
arching your slender waist
stubborn sweetheart,
refused to pay your rights
and drew on your cigarettes
with stern, foolhardy eyes,
staring out of an empty window
yet in silence,
you go back to lie, time and time
next to Erato's Disciples
then tare down the wallpapers,
with filthy nails, see your hands
aren't clean their'e sullied
by the killings you licensed
go, pretend to be credulous,
sweetheart. You know how,
to forget that you are smart.
Take a drag and swallow,
see, how much squalid release you
can knock back down
without chocking, but
be careful as you lie, next
to Erato's disciples
contempt, or languor sweetheart,
will be of no help.
