'I want to go to school day, announced Tom. it's such a long time; in fact millions and trillions of years since I sat in a school desk. Mum would take me there and wave at me in the playground until I followed everyone in. We said prayers in the hall and then the headmaster would talk to us. I didn't like him very much as he was always telling me to be quiet and listen to him.
There would be little milk-bottles all squashed together in crates; near my classroom....I think.
Malcolm later walked closer to the cars by the score, parents by the tens and tiny feet by the many. Everyone heading for the infant school round the corner; near the park and the swings and slide. A slide that Malcolm had got stuck in and rescued by Tom.
Tom was still pursuing his magical dream of school and messy play whilst his gentle carer was trying to steer him away. 'Your too big for school now you know.
Tom shook his head whilst pushing his foot back into his slip on shoe; that seemed to be more off than on his foot.
Tom wasn't about to relinquish his plans.
'Adults go to school. My brother teaches at a school in Australia. It's a shame I can't visit him very often. It really is a great big shame.
