To make a heart out of guts

i rolled up my sleeves
and made a heart out of guts
and walked up-down-up
the platforms of northbound trains,
i kept my finger held and pressed
in a narrow aperture
like a toothless but hungry jaw,
yawning slow behind my rib cage
whilst one by one, the northbound trains
pulled into the platform ,crooning,
to old school hip hop, to bebop,
to slow dance ballads
back from the 50s,
and long, long before
-remember,
your feet strutting, dizzy-
well then, weren't you braw-
swinging ,to an invisible melody-
so to that,
you chanted along,
into the tunnel, a very,
very out of tune song
how, this little caper never ceased,
you,there,
swaying a sort of dance, softly
on the platforms of southbound trains,
balancing over the edges, up down-up.
you need to roll up your sleeves,
and make a heart out of your guts.
