Sentient Swain

In fertile meadow solitary swain
Soles sentiently pared from fecund floor
Sun's constant vigil does lad's passions drain
In his sterile tracks walks a bleating train
Dense sheep instinctively strip nature's store
But wild seeds cannot coax swain's nurtured brain
By rippling brook, white, melancholy chain
The swift currents do not sheep's lips implore
Sun's constant vigil does lad's passions drain
Over rolling hill, undulating plain
Wandering sheep-eyes to greater heights soar
But wild seeds cannot coax swain's nurtured brain
As the west wind blows its eerie refrain
Restless sheep intently rap the foal door
Sun's constant vigil does lad's passions drain
To cliff's edge, reaching for lush clover strain
Strident push, a richer tabletop to score
But wild seeds cannot coax swain's nurtured brain
Sun's constant vigil does lad's passions drain
