Antidotes and Anecdotes

Drop that thought like it’s scalding your skin
Breathe in the solder fumes
Drink down your gin
What you asked last night
I don’t know where to begin
Strap your foot to the pedal
Making love on a whim
I had a glass half empty
Now it’s full to the brim
Full of antidotes and anecdotes
And how not to win.
Sleeping in a house that’s burning to the ground
Walking on a knife’s edge
Finding what shouldn’t be found
Glass up to the wall
So I hear what you have to say
To the neighbour that you left
Undressed
Who’s begging you to stay
Your question left you guessing
What did you want to hear?
Did you love her like a lover?
Now she’s kicked it up a gear.
Faith unto the faithless;
It never really comes
Understanding’s non-existent
In all existing under Sun
Tomorrow light the candle
Strike the match upon a lie
Flicker slowly under lamplight
Let the anguish slowly die.
