Last Love (Be Guided by Your Heart)

Shadows form across a face that was once so familiar;
the fading light has captured her brown, smiling eyes
a prisoner to zebra tones and now muted light has ransomed this heart
night falls and I wait, forever wait; for yet another sunrise.
She is gone - leaving me with such heightened senses
a last love passed through my life; never meant to stay
where is my soul, where is my heart; gone with all clarity
surely not lost nor casualties to; her shadows merging into day.
I missed all that I did not keep; yet remain fulfilled in every way
but for the echo of her cryptic words; “be guided by your heart”
what did she mean; was I to follow, to abandon all other dreams
let go of all I knew, to seek all that I did not; or forever be apart.
my last love could draw the tide to her; in moon phases shone her beauty
she asked that I believe in hope; a bottled emotion of words in fading half tones
but in dreams more real, I see her eyes hear her songs, never shall I forget
how with such fulfilled yet ransomed time; I can never truly walk this life alone.
My last love was like that of the sun’s love of the moon; heavenly, detached
except for brief encounters, at dusk or dawn; destined to always be that way
there was no time for why; no room for hope, to colour or influence the match
or the circle of love’s life; where moonlit darkness, will always follow the day...
Night’s shadows form across my face; yet this new love is not so familiar
anguished are the words waiting to yet shine; held within shadows yet to tell
only now do I understand what she meant with, “be guided by your heart!”
oh my last love, never meant to stay; just as the sun and moon must part
always, I will feel your love touch my heart, within this nightly moonlit spell...
