Cowboy singer – where
were you when I was so
young and lived the songs
you now sing -- the ones about
growing up sad like me being
picked last for a backyard team
the skinny lad with one
fat friend and a daddy
who drank far too much?
Your words are soothing
about a long lost love
somehow captured by your
voice and the pleading
in your words about
overcoming the things which
held you back same as I
at such a childhood
age not understanding tears
were not just for sissies but many
came from one’s broken heart.
