The Culturally Incoherent Economy Cont.

If the $15 an hour wage does happen, retail employers will definitely hire less people, probably have 1 or 2 people maximum per shift. Bonuses will all but disappear. Employee maintenance items like free sodas or free lunches will disappear. It's hard to foresee any real raises happening.
The quality of the employees will not necessarily be better but they will definitely be assigned more responsibilities. Once $15 is set as a base wage, employees have no incentive for changing their behavior. Raises, once again, will be very tough. Waitresses and waiters will definitely leave their jobs for the retail field. Who will really work in restaurants? The base wage for most restaurants is $2.75 plus tips.
McDonalds will fire all of its disabled workers. Illegal aliens working on farms will demand higher wages. Food prices at Whole Foods will skyrocket.
Illegal Aliens working in Restaurants will protest. Restaurant prices at Asian and other restaurants will skyrocket.
We will literally have a third-world illegal alien community
Many other things will happen as a consequence of the $15. Undoubtedly internet businesses like Amazon are probably eying the retail industry and looking for a time to buy them cheap.
For states like New York, California, and Massachusettes, it may stimulate home sales or condo sales or rentals. Two people working at $15 dollars an hour could afford a home, but the workingclass millenials are not really getting married so, it's really hard to say. The cost of living in these states is probably higher and the amount of wealthy people in these states is also significently higher than other states.
The liberals will argue that immigration stimulates the economy by creating more consumers. But objectively speaking, we are not getting immigrants who are the best and brighest in Europe and Israel and Asia now. We are getting immigrants who are costing more than they are benefitting the US. If someone added up all the welfare costs and health care cost and then pointed to the bright illuminaries, we would be in the negative.
In other words, it's really a zero sum game. $15 an hour, but products and things will cost that much more so $15 an hour will be worth the same as $8 an hour now.
