Into The Light

Morning, and a surge of sunlight
Enters sight like a wake-up call
To bear arms against the enemy,
To rise and fight the evils soundly.
And I step back from this sentiment,
Fully conscious of its primal aggression,
And in place of anger, a silence deepens,
An opening to freedom beckons, and I enter.
A wide valley opens before me, sparkling
With life in the sun, benign mountains
Quietly protective, an unwritten duty
To all I perceive, they stand serene.
Now I lie beside a tranquil pool,
As nature about me spins its web,
I am part of it, yet separate,
No longer the need to intervene.
In the distance, the great world turns
On its creaking axis, but in the oasis
Sensual pleasures of sight and sound
Overtake my desire to rejoin it, so I remain.
On re-entering, heat and brightness
Pierced consciousness, pain arrived,
But was instantly dismissed.
The world turns on dirty fuel,
But the light will always be.
