Chapter 6
Cyber Soul
“My name is Penelope,” Penelope said, still half asleep in her clear tubular bed as its’ top half slid away and set her free. Kian’s words still echoed in her mind driving home the terrible truth. Her parents were dead. Her dream was not merely a dream. Kian had failed. She would never reunite with her family. He came to her entered her dream and told her, but how?
She sat up; saw that she was in a small white room. what Kian had told her, but how? Was she still sleeping, still dreaming? Then she saw him enter her room.
“Kian, Maria said you were dead.”
“I was Penny. I came back,” he smiled, “with a vengeance.” He couldn’t resist.
“Run Kian, they’ll find you here.”
“No Penny, I took their world away from them. They won’t hurt anyone ever again. I only wish I could have saved your parents.”
“Then I wasn’t just dreaming?”
“No Penny, it wasn’t just a dream, your parents…” He stopped talking seeing the pain grip her he rushed to her side. She fell into his arms weeping. All he could do was comfort her. With all his new found God like power that’s all he could do. It was humbling, but he needed to be humbled.
She cried for a good long while, until she finally pulled away and wiped her face dry. “Can I go back to Chimera?”
“Of course you can Penny, but things will be very different. The people up there, the workers they must know the truth. Chimera, Earth is their home too. I know they want to go home, just like you.”
“No Kian, I can never go home. I can never go back. My family is dead. My past is gone. What do I have Kian?”
“The future Penny and you can make it anything you want it to be.”
She nodded and smiled. “Can I help you tell them that they can go back to,” she hesitated, “Earth?”
“Please, I wish you would.” He said as took her hand and helped climb out of tube bed…
Just as Penny was waking up in a brand new world Maria was also waking up in a place she had never been.
The smell of fresh black loam filled her nostrils she tried to sit up but found her body would bend up right. Confused she twisted her head around but all she could see was dirt and leaves. It covered her like a blanket. Desperate to get out she swiped away at it. Her swelled with horror as two fur covered paws swung across her field of vision. They were hers. She slapped at her face and struck a long snout. Then it hit her. She was an animal, a shrew to be exact, covered in gritty wet leaves deep in the woods, somewhere on Earth. She tried to scream but the sound that came out of her mouth was not human, just a pitiful little squeak, not very loud but loud enough to get the attention of a nearby owl.
Stricken by panic she scampered out of her burrow and out unto an open field. A great owl perched in a nearby tree saw her, swooped down snatched up in its’ talons took her back to his perch and gobbled her down whole. A few days later it passed her fur and bones and let them drop straight down to the ground.
Doctor Miles awoke in the ground, but he had no fur or claws only damp skin. He wriggled out of his hole just before a mother Robin snapped him up and flew him back to her nest where three wide hungry baby beaks eagerly tore their breakfast worm apart.
Commander Read awoke in a dark clammy place, a clamshell. A sea otter scooped him from the silt, swam to a rocky shoreline beat his shell against a rock until it finally popped open then scraped his slimy body out smacked chewing and grinding him until every bit of his delectable clam body lay digesting in its’ otter stomach.
Such was the fate of every Technocrat. Kian took no sadistic pleasure in their deaths but their deeds were heinous and their hearts unrepentant. Moreover, he wanted to make sure the Chimerans and the Lunans were safe but they were not the only ones he saved from the Technocrats...
Kian would wait to tell Penny how much he had changed, that he was the most powerful being on Luna or Earth. She had too much to take in already. She did not have to know everything right now, just because he did.
Little did he know that there were still things he did not know, Kia and Alex’s transformation and union had placed them outside his sensor range. The Nano bots that had changed them had originated on Earth long before the Technocrats colonized the Moon, long before the Technocrats even existed as such.
Kia and Alex were now his blind spot as well as his blind side. Earth held more surprises for Kian the Chimerans had never been alone on Earth…

Ha...ha! So Maria became a shrew and got eaten by an owl...brilliant, now she's got what she deserved. I imagine Dr Miles became a nice juicy worm for that robin, good...good...good!
Love the idea that the animals are getting their own back with the help of Kian...just as it should be.
Great read as always ray.
Jenny.
