Open habitat

The deplorable conditions at the zoo
caused a mad dash for freedom from pain and suffering
as the frightened and crazed animals flew forth
across the borders and into strange streets
Where is the land that I once new?
cried the African zebra forth
as he ran amock then swam for freedom
only to smash upon hidden rocks on unknown shores
Why must you hold us within these poisoned walls?
snarled the endangered Arabian leopard
while he boarded a turkish train
only to be cornered by a hungary hunter
You watch as we live in horror
yet what brought us to these chains and shackles?
we cannot live while bombs are falling
let us go where instinct says
open habitat still exists
